Description WWI, M-1917 Helmet, the "Doughboy Helmet", with 145th FA and crossed cannons barely legible on the front. The helmet liner is missing and the helmet has had a lacquer finish put on it. The term "Doughboy", was first used to refer to U. S. soldiers in the Mexican-American War of 1846-48 but was widely used to refer to American troops in World War I.
